The Edge-rifts

The rifts of Cloudsdruff, at night time. The ghost-trees are eerie, the candles of the dead lighting at night within each tree, marking the lives of those taken by the vicious Snarkles, winged dragon-snakes that peruse the misty rift edge at night, and sometimes, although more rarely, during the day, occasionally seen harassing merchants goods.

The figure in the fore-ground may be nasty looking, but...well actally, it is, but it prefers the taste of voles. Its very particular about its territory, seen around rocky cliffs where it preys on small rodents. Its flame-breath, believed to be inherited from the now extinct bird-dragons, cooks its prey, and has been known to cause small forest fires, though it is too cold and damp near the rifts to be a problem. Its colour appears to change depending on its habitat, a more arid rusty brown in desert areas, while a cool grey or blue within the rift region.

The rifts themselves lay west of the arid regions of the Upper Sparrs, dropping off into darkness, the other side shrouded in mist. None have yet been brave enough to venture over to the other side...it is a mystery what lies beyond.
